The Ohio State provides a great opportunity for artists from all facets of crafting. With more than 150 creative arts competitions you’re sure to find one that helps you channel your crafty side. Here are 10 creative arts competitions going on at the 2018 Ohio State Fair. The deadline to register for a creative arts competition is June 20. Delivery for creative arts will be July 13 4 pm- 8 pm and July 14 11 am – 7 pm. You can register online here.

1. Handmade Doll Art

This competition focuses on the workmanship, creativity and overall visual impact of handmade doll art.

Classes include:

  • Artistical figure
  • Clay
  • Rag
  • Soft sculpture
2. Fashion Sewing Art

This contest covers a wide range of sewing art. Judges analyze the art’s general appearance, workmanship and degree of difficulty.

Classes include:

  • Outfit for birth – age 17
  • Outfit for age 18+
  • Other sewn item
  • Any upcycled single clothing item
  • Any menswear garment
3. Jewelry and Beading Art

Similar to the fashion sewing art competition, judging for jewelry and beading art consists of attention to detail, workmanship, originality and overall composition.

Classes include:

  • Bead embroidery
  • Bead weaving
  • Bead stringing
  • Wire working
  • Miscellaneous
  • Non-weaving beaded art
4. Origami

Come show your best paper-folding skills in the origami competition. Judges are looking for complexity, craftsmanship, creative use of materials and overall presentation.

Classes include:

  • Floral
  • Geometric/modular
  • Tessellations
  • Traditional (non-modular design)
  • Money folds
  • Snapology
  • Kirigami
5. Photography

All photos must be 8” by 10” and are judged based on the photo’s relevance, technicality, visual aspects and relevance. This competition has both an adult division and a youth.

  • Animals/insects
  • Honey bee
  • Human interest
  • Pet portrait
  • Other (not listed above)

6. Scrapbooking

The scrapbooking competition focuses on creative use of materials, design, neatness and photo composition. Scrapbook pages should be no less then 12” x 12” and no larger than 30” x 30”.

  • Celebrations
  • Family
  • Heritage
  • Pets
  • Everyday moments
  • Travel
7. Stained Glass

Judges for this competition are looking for originality, use of color and craftsmanship.

Classes include:

  • Freestanding item
  • Hanging piece
8. Artistic Upcycling

Turn trash into treasure at this competition in which beautiful works of art are made from used or household items.

Classes include:

  • Wire head/face sculpture
  • Cardboard construction
  • Wearable
  • Functional item
  • Miscellaneous (does fit into another class)
9. Tie Dye

This competition emphasizes originality and workmanship. The contest accepts any tie-dye technique on a t-shirt.

10. Ohio Themed Craft

Show your creativity and Ohio pride by participating in this competition with any Ohio themed craft item.
