Baking temperature: 350 degrees
Baking time: 50 minutes
Yield: 1 cake
Ingredients
- ½ c shortening
- 1 c honey (Our Hive/Upper Sandusky, OH)
- Zest of one orange
- 3 yolks
- 2 c flour
- 2 t baking powder
- ½ t salt
- ½ c milk
- ¼ c ground almonds
- Sliced almonds for garnish

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Stir flour, baking powder and salt together. Set aside
- Cream the shortening. Add honey slowly until incorporated fully
- Add the zest and yolks (one at a time) and incorporate fully
- Add dry to wet alternately with the milk beginning and ending with dry
- Stir in nuts
- Pour the batter into a greased 9x9 pan and bake at 350 for 50 minutes
- Brush with extra honey and sprinkle with sliced almonds while warm. Cool
