Join us in celebrating the art of poetry on Aug. 1, 2019! The Ohio State Fair has partnered with the Ohio Arts Council, Poetry Out Loud and the Ohio Poetry Association to host a Poetry Showcase at the Cox Fine Arts Center. The day will be filled with all things Poetry. Starting at 1 p.m. you’ll hear from five high school poets from Poetry Out Loud. Poetry Out Loud is a program that encourages students to learn about poetry and enhance their public speaking skills. Each year, teachers and administrators are free to register their high schools with the Ohio Arts Council and may organize poetry contests and workshops through the program.

During the program at the Fair, you can enjoy readings from local high school students including a special performance from Ohio’s Poetry Out Loud state champion, Anna Kahle. The incoming senior from Lima Central Catholic High School took stage on April 30 at the 2019 National Recitation Competition and came home as a state champion. Her passion for poetry is something you won’t want to miss.

Get ready to hear incredible poetry from 12 members from the Ohio Poetry Association. To add to the excitement artist, poet and musician, Robert Harvey will make an appearance to inspire all.

Lastly, one of Ohio’s own, Dave Lucas of Cleveland will be here to end the night. Lucas is the co-founder of “Cleveland Book Week and Brews.” He is also the author of “Weather,” which received the 2012 Ohioana Book Award for Poetry and was appointed the second Poet Laureate of the state of Ohio in 2018.

Immerse yourself in great poetry on Aug. 1, 2019 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. These passionate poets are sure to impress the crowd. Join us here at the Cox Fine Arts Center! The event is free with Fair admission.
