Yesterday afternoon, the Ohio Poultry Breeders Association donated a Thanksgiving feast consisting of one turkey and four chickens to complete the holiday meal for a lucky local Columbus family in need.

The donation was generously supported by the 2015 Sale of Champions poultry exhibit buyers, Gerber Poultry, Cooper Farms, Weaver Brothers, Case Farms, Hertzfeld Farms, Trillium Farms, Prairie Star Farms, Hemmelgarn and Sons, Cal Maine Foods, Sauder Amish Eggs, Hillandale Farms, Stoller Farms, Kalmbach Feeds, Wendel Poultry Service, Nature Pure, New Day Farms, Mercer Landmark and Kroger Co. Because no live poultry were exhibited at the Fair this year due to the threat of avian influenza, these Sale of Champions buyers purchased the meal sponsored by the Ohio Poultry Breeders Association and recognized Ohio’s top youth poultry skillathon winners in each age class.

In addition, the Ohio Poultry Association generously donated $1,000 to the Ohio Agricultural Clearance Program, a program of the Ohio Association of Foodbanks, which directly benefits Ohio’s farmers and provides fresh, Ohio-grown fruits and vegetables and shelf-stable, protein-packed foods (including eggs) to more than 2 million Ohioans who struggle to afford food on their own.
