Ohio State Fair Hosts First-Ever Craft Beer Fest

The Ohio State Fair is bringing together some of the best brews in Ohio to one location! Twelve Ohio breweries will be pouring their brews at the Fair’s first-ever Hometown Sounds and Craft Beer Fest on Wednesday, July 26 in the Celeste Center. The event will feature a free concert from Hometown Sounds at 7 pm and a chance to try craft beers from all over Ohio starting at 4 pm.

According to the Ohio Craft Brewers Association, Ohio ranks #4 in craft beer production, brewing 1,385,100 barrels of craft beer in 2015. As of 2017, there are 173 breweries operating in Ohio, 39 of which opened last year, and 35 breweries are located right here in Columbus. This makes Columbus one of the largest craft beer destinations in the Midwest!

To best represent the entire state of Ohio, two breweries from each of the six regions of Ohio were asked to attend. Each brewery will bring two craft beers to showcase – for a total of 24 different beers. Representatives from each brewery will also be available to engage with patrons over the passion of craft beers.

Breweries include:

  • Black Cloister – Toledo
  • Columbus Brewing Co. – Columbus
  • Great Lakes – Cleveland
  • Fat Head’s – Cleveland
  • Jackie O’s – Athens
  • MadTree – Cincinnati
  • Maumee Bay – Toledo
  • Four String Brewing – Columbus
  • Rhinegeist – Cincinnati
  • Warped Wing – Dayton
  • Yellow Springs – Dayton
  • Little Fish Brewing – Athens

The craft beer industry also makes quite the economic impact in Ohio. In 2015, the craft beer industry was responsible for $2.16 billion. According to the Columbus Craft Beer Week website, central Ohio is home to 150 beer bars, growler shops and bottle stores and over 300 restaurants serving craft beer, in addition to the craft breweries.

The success of the craft beer industry in Ohio, especially in Columbus, is certainly something to celebrate.  The Ohio State Fair is hosting a celebration all their own with Hometown Sounds and Craft Beer Fest including the beer experts themselves. The Craft Beer Fest will be held during the Fair on Wednesday, July 26 from 4 pm – 9:30 pm.

The beer tasting will begin at 4 pm and the fest will feature a FREE live concert from “Hometown Sounds: McGuffey Lane with Erica Blinn and Colin Gawel & The League Bowlers” in the WCOL Celeste Center at 7 pm. During the concert, craft beer will be served and tasting tickets will be accepted. Patrons can purchase 10 tickets for $20 to try 3-ounce samples. The first 1,500 patrons will receive a complimentary commemorative 5-ounce tasting mug.
