The Ohio State Fair Homebrew Competition celebrated its 18th year with a record 544 beers, meads and ciders entered from across the state.

The many experienced and highly qualified judges evaluated each entry based upon five different criteria including aroma, appearance, flavor, mouthfeel and overall impression.

Michael Creveling of Akron took home the Best of Show award with his California Common. For the first time, organizers elected to award a runner-up Best of Show award, which went to Steve Amey of Aurora with his Special/Best/Premium Bitter.

Medals were awarded to the top three finishers in each flight, with the fourth receiving a ribbon.
