The Ohio State Fair has various horticulture and florticulture competitions to enter. This year, the amateur floral design theme is inspired by Disney Parks rides! Participants can enter one of many classes and create floral art that represents their favorite adventure. The deadline to enter the horticulture and florticulture competitions is July 1. Here are just some of the unique competition classes:

1. It’s a Small World

It’s a Small World was created for the 1964 World’s Fair and features miniature landmarks and figures that represent different countries around the world. Enter a miniature floral design into the competition because it’s a small world after all! Displays cannot exceed 5” in any direction.

2. Enchanted Tiki Room

The Enchanted Tiki Room at Disneyland features animated tropical birds, tiki gods and colorful flowers – your floral art should too! Participants must use tropical foliage and flowers in their design to capture the tropical feel of the attraction.

3. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

What day is the Floriculture deadline?

“It’s July 1,” squeaked Piglet.

“My favorite day,” said Pooh.

Participants must use orange and red to capture the essence of Pooh in their floral design. Incorporate a jar of honey and your design will be the sweetest in Pooh’s eyes.

4. Magic Carpets of Aladdin

This Disneyland attraction takes guests on a magical carpet ride based on the Disney classic, Aladdin. Tap into your inner Genie and create a magical tapestry using plants and flowers. The magic carpet from Aladdin is the perfect inspiration for your design.

5. The Seas with Nemo

Tell your plants to “just keep swimming” when you create an underwater floral display for this Floriculture Competition inspired by Finding Nemo.

6. Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse

Inspired by the 1812 novel and subsequent films about a shipwrecked family, the Swiss Family Robinson attraction allows guests to adventure through the ultimate treehouse with breathtaking views. Similarly, designs in this floriculture class must incorporate real wood.

7. Soarin’

Like the ride, flight simulator, create a hanging plant design to capture the soaring element of this attraction.

8. Pirates of the Caribbean

“Rrrr” you planning on entering your floral design into the Floriculture Competitions? You should! For the Pirates of the Caribbean class, make sure your design includes an eyepatch before voyaging to the Ohio State Fair.

Create your floral design based on your Disney favorite. Sign up for the various Horticulture and Floriculture Competitions by July 1. For more information and other floriculture classes click here!
