The 2017 Ohio State Fair holds several art competitions for youth to express their creativity. Various forms of art are accepted and the competition is open to students in grades 1-12. The deadline to enter the competition is June 20, so until then, check out these five museums and exhibits that might inspire YOU to enter your work today!

1. The Young People’s Art Exhibition (YPAE) & the Youth Art Month (YAM)

The Ohio Art Education Association sponsors both the YPAE and the YAM in Columbus, Ohio. These exhibitions are designed to showcase students’ and teachers’ artwork, as well as promote the importance of art education in Ohio’s K-12 schools.

The YPAE is held from March to May, so there’s a whole year to prepare. Meanwhile, the Ohio State Fair provides elementary to high school students the opportunity to showcase their talents in the Youth Art Competitions!

2. Mazza Museum

The Mazza Museum is located on the University of Findlay campus in Findlay, Ohio. The museum is a collection of original artwork by children’s book illustrators. Not only does it host many children’s books, the Mazza Museum also has a children’s art exhibit. The museum works closely with local elementary school art teachers to showcase children’s artwork.

3. National Museum of the U.S. Air Force

Each year the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, located in Dayton, Ohio, hosts the Annual Student Aviation Art Competition and Exhibition. Local students display hundreds of pieces of artwork based on the year’s theme. For 2017 the theme was “American Airman: Breaking Barriers since 1947.”

The pieces are judged in categories according to grade starting from Kindergarten all the way to 12th grade. If you’re up for more competition this is another great opportunity to look into for next year!

4. Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition

This is a super cool annual opportunity. For the 47th year, this competition is open to high schools students chartered by the Ohio Department of Education. The purpose of the exhibit is to provide students with a space to showcase their work and win scholarship opportunities. This is one of several awards offered to students in the Youth Arts Competition at the Ohio State Fair.

The youth artists who are selected to receive this award will also receive FREE entry for up to 10 pieces of work in the Ohio State Fair Youth Arts Exhibition. The Governor’s Exhibition is located at the James A. Rhodes State Office Tower.

5. The Ohio State Fair

Last, but certainly not least, the Ohio State Fair hosts various youth arts competitions for grades 1-12. Each year the Fair awards more than $3,200 to talented youth who submit their masterpieces. The artwork is then displayed in exhibits at the Fair daily. Mediums accepted, but not limited to, include: abstract, acrylic, ceramics, charcoal, collage, mixed media, oil painting, painting, photography, sculpture and more!
