The Ohio State Fair offers unique events and competitions that showcase all the state has to offer. One of these unique events involves growing Christmas trees, an activity not typically thought about until Christmas. However, Christmas tree farms throughout Ohio think about it all year round.

The Ohio State Fair has partnered up with the Ohio Christmas Tree Association to hold this competition. The three classes include fir, pine and spruce. The judges take into account the tree’s shape, fullness, color and overall appearance.

In addition to first, second and third place given in each class there is also a People’s Choice award that is announced following the fair. Last year’s winners included Greig Tree Farm in Lake County for both fir and spruce and Galehouse Tree Farm in Wayne County for pine.
